The Salman Al-Dabbous Cardiac Center at Adan Hospital has launched a programme for replacing the heart’s tricuspid valve through a catheter, marking a new minimally invasive service at the facility.

The centre completed two procedures using the LuX-Valve Plus device. Doctors reached the heart through the jugular vein in the neck using an opening no wider than one centimetre.

The operations coincided with a specialist workshop at the cardiac centre. The valve disease team was led by Dr Al-Tayeb Al-Qallaf, a consultant in valve and structural heart disease.

Other members of the clinical team included consultant cardiologist and echocardiography specialist Dr Ali Al-Humaidan, cardiologist Dr Ibrahim Hussein Arzoun and Dr Mohammad Abdulshafi.

Anesthesia and intensive-care teams also supported the procedures. The departments involved worked under their respective leaders, including Head of Cardiology Dr Bader Al-Ayyad, Dr Huda Al-Fodari and Dr Mohammad Shamsah.

The programme was established with the support of Health Minister Dr Ahmad Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi and Ministry of Health Undersecretary Sheikh Dr Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah.

The catheter approach allows the valve to be replaced through a small access point rather than conventional open surgery, according to the details released by the Ministry of Health.
