Jacobs into 100m final with eye on third title
Two-time defending champion Marcell Jacobs coasted into the final of the 100m at the European Championships in Birmingham on Tuesday.
Jacobs, the surprise Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, touched down in the English city as the European leader on times and the Italian had no problems in the third and final heat, winning in impressive style in 10.08 seconds.
Britain's Romell Glave, in 10.13sec, and 2025 world indoor 60m champion Jeremiah Azu (10.17) won the two other heats.
Alongside that trio, Italy's defending silver medallist Ali Chituru, Germany's Owen Ansah -- facing calls from his country's anti-doping agency for a four-year ban for refusing to undergo a doping test -- and Netherlands' Elvis Afrifa also sealed automatic qualification spots.
Belgium's Simon Verherstraeten and a third Briton, Louie Hinchliffe, got through to the final scheduled for 2045 GMT Tuesday as the two other fastest finishers.
